Founded in 2007 as a small family-owned swim school, Triangle Swim School changed hands in January of 2023 when Ehrenfeld Companies (eCos) added it to their portfolio of companies.

Over the past several years, eCos has built its portfolio of sports businesses including, most notably, SPIRE Academy (www.spireacademy.com) in Geneva, Ohio. Housed on approximately 1,000 acres just east of Cleveland, SPIRE has more than 800,000 square feet under roof and encompasses not only SPIRE Academy, an accredited college preparatory international boarding school and multi-sport/specialty training and development academy for 9-12 graders and a postgrad program, but also camps, leagues, and fitness and wellness programs, in addition to hosting local, national, and international tournaments and events.

With all eCos acquisitions, ownership takes a hands-on approach to leadership and guidance. Care is taken to maintain the family feeling, while having resources to grow companies focused on maximizing each company’s full potential.

OUR TEAM

The Triangle Swim School team of instructors, lifeguards, deck supervisors, and maintenance staff are led by talented and experienced individuals.

Dana Downing

Director

Dana is originally from Oklahoma. She is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology and owned her own company for 25 years in San Francisco, prior to moving to Raleigh. Every summer, Dana’s mom was a volunteer swimming instructor, and Dana always wanted to tag along. By the age of four, she was already swimming competitively and worked her way up to competing nationally with USA Swimming. Dana became a Water Safety Instructor for the American Red Cross at the age of 16 and has been teaching ever since. She has also been a stroke and turn judge for USA swimming, coached swim teams, and volunteered for the American Red Cross to teach near-drowning victims. Dana joined the TSS family in September of 2022 as an instructor and was appointed the Director in August 2024. She is very excited to use her experience and organizational skills to take TSS to the next level.
